ICELAND - ISLANDIJA

 ana03     tháng 12 13, 2012     No comments

A visit to Iceland by ferry is rough (from Danemark) - uncomfortable navigation on choppy seas lasts for three days. Also, due to stops on the Faroe Islands, Shetland and the Norwegian Bergen. Ferry port is at isolated eastern part of the island - Seydifjordur. Lovely wooden houses make a beautiful welcome but customs officers take the time to examine in detail each and every vehicle. Entry of any fresh food, plants and animals is prohibited. Not to mention the drugs… The cars are searched by black Labradors who a little enlive the procedure. Of course, if you do not hide banned items....There is not much going on in the sleepy village. Passengers leave it quickly over a high mountain pass. Asphalt strip surprisingly quick ends just a few kilometers from the last major place. That is common for the sparsely populated eastern part of Iceland. The main road which encircles the island is about 1500 km long. Thankfully, the roads are mostly good to drive with a conventional passenger car. But Icelanders love large off-road cars. And not without reason! In winter snow service does not work very fast and perfect. Therefore, four-wheel drive comes in handy. It could snow in mountainous areas even in the mid-summer! Furthermore, uninhabited wild interior is laced with heavy transport roads, which are routed through the river basins - there are no bridges. Officially, those roads are open only in the summer and only for off-road vehicles. However, each year some conventional passenger cars end up overturned in the river bed.

Highlights:
-Vatnajokull glacier and Jokulsalron lagoon, where one of James Bond films was made.
-Waterfall Gullfoss
-Geysir-Strokkur
- Lake Myvatn and volcanic landscape
- Husavik - whale watching
- Soaking in hot springs
-Reykjavik, colorful wooden houses
