Despite occasional tropical cyclones country in the Pacific Ocean offers all the facilities of a tropical paradise with a special local atmosphere. Aborigines represent only half of the population, while the rest are mostly Indians, who worked on plantations led by British. Differences between the two nations are large and almost the only link between them is the official language - English. 
Traveling of the main island Viti Levu is simple: the local buses or vans, which have a similar role. Tropical paradise (snorkeling, diving ...) is best enjoyed in one of the smaller islands - the most authentic in local villages, but also in luxurious hotels. Both offers Mana Island, an hour away from Nadi.
In traditional village the houses – bure, are built from natural materials. In some of them locals stil live without electricity, farming, and on Saturdays with spears hunted wild pigs. When you visit such a village, you will be lead to the chief first. Give him some money or gifts and drink a welcome drink – kava (ground roots of piper soaked in water), which is served in a coconut shell-ground roots poprovca soaked in water. Kava is a great substitute for alcohol and does not lead to addiction. Only the lips get numb and after large quantities of kava one just falls asleep. Sleeping in a cottage is fun - of course, on the floor, and eating with hosts who care for you as a child as well.
In the capital Suva the most interesting is the marketplace, pay atention to some some colonial buildings, lively Indian stores, and if lucky, you may visit a concert (Black Roses are really awesome!). And don't forget about rugby matches! Fijians are crazy about this sport, but matches are a real family fun.
