Some of the tourist places you can not miss during your trip to Vietnam is the Municipal Theatre, also known as the Opera House. Located in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City , district 1 (see Saigon city map), this building was built in 1897 by the architect Félix Olivier, and it is a fine example of the French colonial style. Features of the Municipal Theatre
The design of Saigon Opera House main entrance, the architects were inspired by the Little Palace of Paris (Petit Palais), following the guidelines of the III Republic. The Opera House currently has 500 seats and this place is used for artistic performances and major events since 1975 (formerly used as a temporary residence of French civilians who had to emigrate from North Vietnam after the signing of the Geneva Accords). Note that this building was renovated in 1995 and subsequently in 2009, was equipped with an outdoor lighting system, installed on the roof of the Opera House.

The Opera House of Ho Chi Minh City is located in one of the best places of Saigon, the streets Dong Khoi (Đồng Khởi) and one main street of the city, Le Loi (Lê Lợi).

In front of the Opera, a small green park where panels hanging from a metal structure, compose a hallway and a showroom, where we usually can admire collection of pictures and information about the history, culture and tradition of Vietnam (available in several languages).
